Preparing Your Quilt
There are a few basic steps you can take to prepare your quilt, which will greatly assist the quilting process. We ask that you employ the following check list when getting your quilt ready for quilting and if you have any questions you are encouraged to call or e-mail for clarification.
1. Press your quilt top and clip loose threads. This is also a good opportunity to inspect your quilt for broken seams.
2. Quilts with pieced borders and edge blocks should be edge stitched.
3. Tag the edge of the quilt intended to be the top.
4. Ensure that borders are square and true. Quilts with extremely wavy borders do not mount easily on the machine and are difficult to quilt.
5. The backing should be pieced and squared prior to sending. Remember that removing all selvages prior to piecing prevents your backing from puckering. SaltSeams can prepare and square the backing for you; there is an additional charge for this service.
6. Backing and batting should be at least 4 inches larger than the quilt on all sides.
7. Do not baste or pin layers together as they are installed on the machine separately.
